趣味・Tips

If you’re interested in learning Japanese with hololive JP, it’s important to choose members whose Japanese is easier to comprehend at first. To help you get started, I’ve written an article on the top three hololive JP members whose Japanese may not be suitable for studying Japanese right away. I hope this article will be helpful for your Japanese learning journey.

3rd Place: Tokoyami Towa

Towa Ch. 常闇トワ

Starting with Tokoyami Towa may not be the best choice for beginners due to her unique speaking style. Towa has a husky voice that is certainly distinct, but it can sometimes make it difficult to understand what she is saying.

While Towa’s speaking speed varies depending on the situation, she generally speaks at a moderate pace. However, the distinct qualities of her voice can make it challenging for learners to follow along with the conversation.

Her unique voice can help learners practice their listening comprehension skills. However, it’s recommended that beginners start with hololive JP members who speak in more standard Japanese before moving on to Towa’s streams.

2nd Place: Houshou Marine

Marine Ch. 宝鐘マリン

Houshou Marine is a beloved member of hololive JP, known for her lively and energetic personality. However, her speaking style can be challenging for those looking to study Japanese. Her speech is very fast with quick transitions between topics, and she frequently uses internet slang. This can make it difficult for non-native speakers to keep up with what she is saying, especially if they’re not familiar with Japanese internet culture.

Her discussions about Japanese internet culture can provide insights into aspects of the language that are not often covered in textbooks. However, for those just starting to study Japanese, it may be best to begin with other hololive JP members who speak at a slower and more deliberate pace.

1st Place: Sakura Miko

Miko Ch. さくらみこ

Sakura Miko may not be the most ideal choice for learners due to the difficulty of understanding her Japanese. She has a tendency to speak quickly, and her pronunciation can be challenging to decipher, even for native speakers. Additionally, Miko’s poor enunciation and lack of clarity in her speech can make it hard for learners to follow along with what she’s saying.

While Miko doesn’t use a lot of internet slang, her rapid speech and poor enunciation can make it challenging to pick up on more complex words and phrases. This can be especially difficult for learners who are still working on building their listening comprehension skills.

However, it’s worth noting that despite the challenges, Miko is a beloved member of hololive JP, and her streams can still be enjoyable for learners who are up for the challenge. Miko’s energetic and upbeat personality can make her streams entertaining to watch, even if it can be difficult to understand what she is saying at times.

Who is the easiest to understand?

When it comes to understanding Japanese with hololive JP members, it really depends on the learner’s preferences and abilities. However, in my opinion, Nekomata Okayu is an excellent choice for those looking to study Japanese.

Okayu Ch. 猫又おかゆ

Okayu speaks at a slow and deliberate pace, which makes it easier for learners to follow along. Her vocabulary and grammar are also more accessible for language learners, which is helpful for those who are still building their understanding of the language.

While some people might say that she has an accent, Okayu has mentioned that she usually tries to speak Japanese in a common way. In fact, in her usual streams, her Japanese sounds like standard Japanese to me.

Despite the fact that some Hololive JP members may speak Japanese that is difficult for Japanese learners to understand, don’t give up. As you gradually improve your Japanese ability, you’ll be amazed when you’re finally able to comprehend their challenging speech. Once you can understand their Japanese, you are truly “nihongo jozu”!
